901 bombs: Utusan report speculation, say police

Ferdtan: The police should set up a high-level special task force to investigate the 901 bombs if they are serious to stamp out such terrorist acts.

If this is not solved and arrests not made, I am afraid more copycat bombing attacks may occur, much to the detriment of our national security.

This is a national security issue (unlike yellow T-shirts Bersih demonstrators). If the perpetrators can do a simple bomb like that, with timers, then what will stop them making more powerful and deadly bombs which may kill thousands?

You ask us not to speculate but you never rebuked Utusan Malaysia for doing so. This is why we find the police not credible - you have different set of rules: one for us and another for Umno-BN cronies.

It's meant as a warning by elements opposed to the exercise of our democratic and civil rights as to what can happen - that any challenge to overturn the status quo will be met with violence.

The police while behaving well, however, failed in their duty to provide public order and ensure the safety of the participants attending the assembly.

The IGP (inspector-general of police) is to be held responsible and he must take aggressive measures and make it a top priority to nab the villains before all hell breaks loose.

People or organisations or media who speculate on these acts of cowardice are only aggravating the situation and also seen to have a sinister motive for blatant accusations without proof against anyone or party and must be punished just as the perpetrators who carried it out.

It shows the presence of irresponsible and subversive elements in this country and must be stopped from further destruction or damage or even trying to spread their wings. The police should be allowed to carry out their work without interference or comments or speculations that may jeopardise their work.

Secondly, wasn't there a continuous video feed of everything that went down in the 901 rally? How come only this was missed?

Ksn: If that is the case, meaning Utusan report is mere speculation, what action is the home minister going to take against this newspaper? Is it not time to cancel its publishing licence?

Wira: Utusan quoted unnamed police source as saying that the explosives were brought in by the 901 supporters.

The pertinent question is: is the police speculating or the media speculating but putting the source of speculation on the police?

The Kuala Lumpur police chief cannot simply brush this off as media speculation since the media quoted a police source.

Unless the police take action to clamp down hard on their own officers for spreading rumours of a sensitive nature, then we would all suppose rumour-mongering is now an approved operating procedure in the force.

IloveBN: The people who planted the bombs where expecting Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to go to jail. Thus when the news breaks, there will be anger.

The bombs will explode and the PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) will immediately arrest the people in the crowd. Then the blame will be on Anwar's supporters.

To speculate in this land is simply to think just a little bit faster, and more clearly, than the least imaginative police official or spokesperson involved in the matter at hand.

It is to have, and voice, an idea on a matter of substantial public interest about which nobody in any official position has anything to say, or even the faintest idea at all.

So what, basically, they are always saying when they urge the people not to speculate is, "Don't think, we can't!"

Lim Chong Leong: Since Umno is the only one who will benefit from chaos, I speculate that it is them who planted the bombs, with the help of the police of course.
