In a final public statement released just over an hour ahead of the Sodomy II verdict, Anwar Ibrahim urges Malaysians to continue with the struggle for reform, regardless of the High Court's decision.

"They can assassinate my character, trample on our rights, they can put us behind bars for speaking up and they can even beat us up just for being together.

"But they can never take away our dignity and our spirit to do what is right and fight for what we believe in," Anwar says in a posting on his personal blog this morning.

Maintaining that he is a victim of an elaborate conspiracy that goes back to the first sodomy trial in 1998, Anwar says his political enemies had been abusing national institutions and the media to the sole purpose of burying one man's political career.

Regardless of the judgment, Anwar urges Malaysians to renew their conviction to bring about change by upholding the rule of law, providing a fair and equitable economic system and to foster true brotherhood among all Malaysians.

Malaysians must also remain steadfast in the fight against corruption, abuse of power, oppression and tyranny.

Anwar believes that this conviction is enough to put Pakatan Rakyat in power during the next general election but hints that he may be in jail then.

"They can put me in a cage and chain me to the ground but they can never imprison my soul and my spirit.

"I make this solemn promise to you that I will not rest until we make right the wrongs committed by this corrupt government and bring about a just and equitable nation.

"I will remain with you in heart and soul and together we will build a new Malaysia," he adds.

The High Court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on this case at 9am.
