PKR: Cops never discussed conditions at meeting
PKR has claimed that the police had not brought up the 10 conditions imposed upon the 901 rally tomorrow, at the time when the agreement between the party and the Kuala Lumpur police had been struck.
PKR has claimed that the police had not brought up the 10 conditions imposed upon the 901 rally tomorrow, at the time when the agreement between the party and the Kuala Lumpur police had been struck.“As one of the party leaders who were there at the negotiations with the highest officers from PDRM Kuala Lumpur, I back the PKR’s stand that when the agreement was reached during the meeting on Friday January 6, the matter of the conditions later imposed by the PDRM was never touched upon,” said PKR vice president N Surendran (left).
“In fact, the 10 conditions were conveyed to PRK only through (PKR Youth chief) Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin after the media had been informed of it, and only through a letter,” he said in a statement today.
Shamsul’s signature referred to by the police as constituting PKR’s agreement to the conditions, was in fact merely an acknowledgement of receipt of the letter, said Surendran.
“It is not a signature agreeing to the conditions as described by some quarters,” he said.
Surendran said they discussed some matters of crowd control with the police, none of the conditions were brought up and that “the police were satisfied with PKR’s explanations”.
“Therefore, we stand firm that the peaceful gathering will proceed in a peaceful manner without the need for the conditions stipulated by the police,” he said.
Police spin?
Meanwhile, Shamsul (right) responded on Twitter confirming Surendran’s claims.
“I have never agreed with the conditions. I only signed to acknowledge receipt of the official letter bearing the conditions.
“Don’t tell me the police are spinning (the story)” he quipped in his tweet.
However, according to a Bernama report, KL police chief Mohmad Salleh has maintained that the matter was discussed and says he is disappointed with PKR's denials.
