PKR deputy president Azmin Ali responded jestingly in asking, isn’t he qualified to be the prime minister?

In replying to questions on whether Kelantan prince and former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is speculated to be roped into Pakatan Rakyat and become prime minister if Pakatan wins, Azmin asked, “Do you agree if I become the prime minister?”.

“It (Tengku Razaleigh) is just rumours. Anwar (Ibrahim) has said that we had discussed all options with other presidents of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, and the question of leadership depends on each party.

NONE“We have a process in PKR and in Pakatan Rakyat. We have discussed all options and we are prepared to continue with the struggle. It (a possible Anwar conviction) is not a problem at all, it is just a minor issue,” said the Gombak MP.

Quizzed on whether there would be an interim prime minister should Anwar be jailed and Pakatan wins, Azmin said this has been discussed openly with other Pakatan presidents.

“The decision will be based on consensus and this will be made known when it is the right time to announce. We are prepared to face any eventuality.”

“Anwar will be the PM whether he is jailed or not (if Pakatan wins),” he said.

Asked whether he was prepared to become the interim PM, Azmin jokingly said, “If you agree”.

“Well, let us discuss, my views are not important but it is the views of the leadership in Pakatan Rakyat which is relevant.”

“My views don’t matter (whether I want to be the interim PM). It does not matter if the coming PM is a man or woman. We are not worried, why are you worried? We are prepared to face any eventuality,” said Azmin.    

On Anwar’s briefing with several ambassadors today, the PKR deputy president said it is a normal meeting to discuss current issues.

Nurul Izzah: The struggle will continue

Party vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, said the family is prepared to face any consequences following Monday’s verdict.

pkr election convention nurul izzah“Certainly we will try our best and manage the coalition and the expectations of the rakyat. The most important thing is that we wrest control through elections.

“After the experience in 1998, we have seen an international Bar Council report condemning the first Anwar Ibrahim trial and Lim Guan Eng conviction (in the former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik affair).

“What is important is that Pakatan remains together and face the elections together,” he said.

Nurul Izzah said she and her sisters are working hard in the party’s campaign against the political conspiracy.

“The family remains united and it (the verdict) is something the family is not looking forward to. I am very sad that at his age my father has to face the allegations.

“But we believe it is worth it in the struggle to achieve something greater,” she said.
