Malay NGO Malaysia Islamic Missionary and Welfare Association (Pekida) today warned Pakatan Rakyat not to misuse the Federal Territory Mosque to organise the 901 rally.

“If they want to do peaceful assembly, go ahead but don’t create trouble in the mosque, or else Pekida Malaysia will not keep quiet,” said Pekida supreme council member Mohd Syaril Abdul Aziz.

He called a brief press conference at the main entrance of Kuala Lumpur police headquarters after meeting with the authority on Monday’s rally.

“We have preaching programmes at the mosque from Sunday to Monday, please don’t take advantage to disturb... we have many members there,” he said.

The Federal Territory Mosque is just 300m from the Duta court complex where Pakatan is planning to gather 100,00 of its supporters to show solidarity with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who will face the verdict of his second sodomy trial that day.

Syaril revealed that the programme involving all Pekida members in Selangor and KL will start from Sunday afternoon to 11am on Monday. It is a continuation of the organisation’s meeting with the prime minister on Saturday, and it is has long been planned.

“We won’t march. We will only stay in the mosque, and our members won’t make any provocation. We are just there by coincidence. So we ask that those who are not Pekida members not to create trouble in the mosque,” he added.

Syaril claimed he was called by the police for a meeting today although his organisation has nothing to do with the rally.
