PKR wants to go ahead with the so-called "901 Free Anwar Campaign" in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 9 because the party regards a peaceful environment as a liability for it.

NONE A chaotic situation with the incitement of anger and hatred by provoking the public is conducive for PKR to promote the personal agenda of an individual, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

"We know that this is a personal agenda. I do not want to say more. Many quarters have stated their objection (to the proposed demonstration) because they want the country to remain peaceful and stable," Muhyiddin told reporters after visiting Year One pupils at SRK Bukit Pantai in Kuala Lumpur to see how they were coping with their first day of school.

The "901 Free Anwar Campaign" is being held to coincide with the court verdict in the sodomy case of Opposition Leader and PKR adviser Anwar Ibrahim.

'Give police reports serious attention'

Muhyiddin said the police reports lodged by various quarters on the proposed demonstration were not a trivial matter and should be given serious attention.

PKR leaders, he said, should exercise greater responsibility and set an excellent example by respecting the law, and not turn the people against the authorities.

"That is the practice which should be followed. One should not be arrogant and go against the authorities. They do not respect the law, but at other times they talk about transparency and integrity."

Muhyiddin said the PKR action showed the party' was presuming the court verdict.

Up to yesterday, 339 police reports were made throughout the country against the proposed demonstration, with the largest number of 102 reports lodged in Selangor.
