The Kulim branch of the Malay rights pressure group Perkasa today lodged a police report strongly condemning the "901 Free Anwar Campaign" which it described as absurd.

Its chairperson, Abdul Hamid Osman, said the move to hold demonstrations on Jan 9 when the court delivers its verdict in the sodomy trial of PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim is feared will undermine national security and public order.

"We fear that undesirable elements may exploit the situation and try to cause strife among the people who are unaware that a personal issue is to be politicised into a public issue," he told reporters after he and the committee members of the branch lodged the report at the Kulim police station, here.

Meanwhile, Bernama reports that the Kelantan police are to intensify their investigation into the distribution of leaflets defamatory of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor in Kuala Krai and Tanah Merah.

State police chief Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said this followed the arrest of 11 people between the ages of 15 and 55 on suspicion of distributing the leaflets in the two districts two days ago.

"All of them were released on police bail pending prosecution on Jan 9 under Section 8 of the Printing Presses and Publications Act," he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of duties of Kelantan Commercial Crime chief.

Supt Mohd Zulmazi Che Daud of the Bukit Aman police headquarters took over the duties from DSP Nazly Mohd Said.

Jalaluddin said the police were continuing their probe into the remnants of those who distributed the leaflets purportedly linking the prime minister and his wife to the sodomy case of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

He also said that Kelantan police detected 493 commercial crime cases in the state last year compared to 453 in 2010. Most of the cases were related to land fraud and cyber crime, he added.
