Tee Keat: I'm a negative example for Najib

your sayAnonymous_4031: It is a very sad day indeed if the Umno president, like the president of any other party, dares not put his foot down and declare that ‘1 Malaysia: People First, Performance Now' is his slogan, and those who say that they are Malays first and Malaysians second can go to hell.

Since his slogan is shot to bits and he dares not act against those predators, he should gracefully bow out - he is not fit to be the PM of all Malaysians that he claims to be. In any other democratic nation, a PM who fails to get support from his deputy and could not handle him should resign.

I remember David Marshall (Singapore's first chief minister) who went to Britain for the independence talks. He said he would not take "half a loaf", and when he returned, he gracefully resigned and allowed Lim Yew Hock to take over from him.

That is the true mark of a gentleman! PM Najib Razak is a total failure on this matter. He must show the voters that he has the guts to sack ministers who do not toe the line.

Chandran Sukumaran: The problem with Najib is no matter what he tries to do, the spectre of Altantuya Shaariibuu will forever haunt him.

The whole world knows that the judiciary has been compromised in delivering a judgment which even elementary school children will scratch their heads. Najib has lost respect and is being manipulated by his own party members.

Mirror Thyself: When former MCA chief Ling Liong Sik once mentioned that the rot starts from the head, nobody took heed of his sayings. Now the saying in very apt in today's political scenario.

The incumbent MCA president (Chua Soi Lek), being the Perak MCA chief, is having a nightmare trying to get a safe seat to contest in Perak. Why? The rotting in the head has already spread into the mid-span of the body.

Anonymous_4031: If a PM has to look over his shoulders every time he wants to reform the electoral process or implement any policy, he is a dead duck; and not worthy of mention.

In Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew once announced that English would be the medium of instruction and that policy still sticks after 50 years of Singapore's independence.

But in Malaysia, Bahasa Malaysia has been in use for several years; and then Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his last days of office introduced teaching of science and mathematics in English; and now, it has switched back to Bahasa.

Is there a hidden agenda to send our children to the Dark Ages so that they will remain ignorant, while children in the rest of the region march towards enlightenment?

Mangodurian: There hasn't been any leader with the guts to put their foot down and say unequivocally, "Racism and corruption is not the Malay way."

Mahathir was the closest leader who could have put his foot down. Too bad he represented the dark side most of the time.

Cannon: Mahathir, far from putting his foot down, single-handedly opened the floodgates for grand corruption to take root in our country. He went about dismantling the professionalism and independence of our institutions and emasculated the system of checks and balances.

No Umno bigwig was convicted of corruption under Mahathir's watch, except for Anwar Ibrahim. The mobsters Mahathir nurtured and who came to control Umno and the country don't have any grand vision. They have ringgit signs in both eyes and are into grand larceny.

Change is about the last thing the Umno hardliners, who are in control, desire. The warlords in Umno are not about to forsake their old ways. They are dead opposed to change. They need power to feed and sustain their insatiable greed and continue with their thieving ways.

Najib, as president of the party, has declared in no uncertain terms that Umno will not surrender power and will defend its rule with blood. It is determined to override the sovereignty of the people and defy the will of the electorate.

With an arrogant, morally defunct and increasingly lawless Umno, the BN coalition parties are doomed. The leadership of the component parties have long resolved to sink with Umno. Let them share Umno's fate.

Former MCA chief Ong Tee Keat should do the wise thing and get out of MCA now. BN is a lost cause.

Alan Goh: You are dead right, Ong Tee Keat, that Malaysian voters are pissed off with the many abuses and massive corruption under Umno-BN for the past 54 years.

But the tainted leader of MCA who was caught with his pants down is still harping on the same old issue of hudud, Islamic state and MCA is seen condoning the many abuses and corruption under BN. As the English saying goes, birds of the same feather flock together.

David Dass: Malaysia is a beautiful country. It is our country. It is our home. The sights, sounds and smells of the country are dear to us. The Federal Constitution is our sacred pact (save for some amendments that were sneaked in when MPs were asleep or indifferent).

The people of this country should expect and demand that the country be run in accordance with the rule of law - justly and wisely. Let the primary preoccupation of the government be to look after the poor whilst providing opportunities to all who seek it.

Let those who are diligent and creative reap the benefits of their effort. Let the best of the best become the professionals and the managers of our society, but strengthen the checks and balances such that power will not be allowed to corrupt.

Government should be transparent and fully account to the people for all expenditure. The office of the auditor-general should be strengthened for they are the guardians of the public purse. Let all have a stake in the country.
