I refer to your interview with Ong Tee Keat (OTK) entitled "No other seat for me other than Pandan", where OTK has more or less indicated his intention to contest in Pandan irrespective of whether he is re-nominated by BN/MCA.

By declaring his intention openly, OTK is putting pressure on the BN/MCA leadership to accommodate his candidacy again, even though he had lost his presidential seat.

According to tradition, such a loss in any BN component party spells the end of that particular person's political career.

However OTK would like to make return so that he could teach a lesson to all those who back stabbed and betrayed him during the party crisis.

In the Chinese media community, OTK has earned the "Bu Dao Weng" nickname, meaning the invincible.

Throughout his political career Bu Dao Weng has never fallen, that is, until bad luck befell him on the Oct 10, 2009 EGM.

Before that fateful day, it was reported that OTK went all the way to Bangkok to seek religious blessings from Thailand's royal monk.

He came back brimming with confidence thinking that he could weather the prevailing crisis like the others before, what more with the sworn support of Liow Tiong Lai (LTL) and Wee Ka Seong (WKS).

However, that Oct 10 delivered OTK a stunning defeat when delegates voted 1155 against 1141, to pass a motion of no-confidence against him.

OTK was beaming with confidence before the votes were cast but had forgotten that the enemy from within is much more dangerous than that from without.

In a last minute turnaround, supporters LTL and WKS voted in favor of the no-confidence motion to dump OTK.

To both Liow and Wee, the EGM was the golden opportunity to get rid of both OTK and CSL so that they could monopolize the party leadership soon after that.

In the aftermath of EGM, OTK was totally shattered but at the same time he realized that it was the insider job secretly engineered by supporters of Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai and Wee Ka Siong that had brought down the invincible Bu Dao Weng.

He then flew back to Bangkok for another meeting with the royal monk.

When OTK convened a meeting of the central committee upon his return from the Thai capital, the stabbing and betrayal story had become that much clearer.

Half way through the central committee meeting on Oct 15, the Liow faction proceed to stage a power grab by demanding OTK's resignation.

By then, OTK had fully realized that he had been done in and betrayed by his trusted lieutenants.

However, being a maverick fighter in his own right, OTK attempted to salvage his political fortune by forming the Grand Unity Plan (GUP) with Chua Soi Lek (CSL).

Anyway, his alliance with CSL , proved too weak to sustain, finally paving the way for the party reelection of March 28, 2010.

On that yet another fateful day, the first ever party re-election in MCA history, OTK managed to pick up only 578 votes, the lowest among the three contestants.

CSL was elected the president but OTK vowed to fight on. He considered himself down but not out as the he has a deep-rooted sense of vengeance against those who had betrayed him.

The market generally predicts that CSL would never nominate OTK but within the MCA itself, there is a second version of the story generally neglected by the public.

It is true that CSL is not likely to nominate OTK for obvious reasons but Liow is also against OTK making a political come back.

Liow had actually betrayed OTK half way through the party crisis. So, he cannot afford to take any chances as he is well aware that OTK is out for his blood.

Here is the scenario and dilemma; OTK candidacy would have to confront two stumbling blocks; the sitting president and deputy president. The writing is already on the wall.

OTK would not get a chance to contest under the BN banner unless PM Najib stepped in. He has to gird himself to fight as an independent but the chances of victory are very slim in a three-cornered fight.

Alternatively, he could cross over to Pakatan/PKR and bargain for a seat in Pandan. This is a better way to contest and to win as well.
