Accused of abuse of power, Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming yesterday sent a letter of demand to a blogger to retract a posting and apologise with 48 hours.

Failing which, Nga, who spoke to reporters in Ipoh yesterday, said that legal action will be taken against Ahmad Sofian Yahya.

“I will be filing a defamation suit at the Ipoh High Court against Ahmad Sofian if he fails to apologise within the stipulated time,” he was reported by The Star as saying.

The daily reported that the blogger has refused to apologise.

“If the allegations were slanderous, I would not have brought the matter up with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission,” he said.

Nga has been accused of abusing his power when he was briefly state exco member in charge of local government, by instructing the Ipoh City Council to award a contract for lounge suits to a tailoring firm partly owned by his wife.

Ahmad Sofian, 47, had posted on his blog www.sekupangduas.blogspot.com copies of the Ipoh City Council meeting minutes which state that the council was instructed by the state to hire the Ethan & Elton firm.

The minutes state that the council had initially hired another tailoring company, which put in the lowest bid, but was made to give the award to highest bidder at RM650 per suit.

Nga earlier denied wrongdoing as he was not on the tender award board, and that his wife Wong Seow Ching is only a “sleeping partner” in the firm.

Ethan & Elton also denied using their connections to win the bid.
