Graft in Umno: Monkey see, monkey do
YOURSAY 'How not to be corrupted? When an employee sees his boss being crooked and corrupted, he, too, will do likewise.'
Muhyiddin probing aide's kickback claims
Toffeesturn: Muhyiddin Yassin is our deputy prime minister, doesn't he know that he can't investigate the allegation of kickbacks involving his private secretary? After all, he is an interested party in this matter as this may tarnish his name and that of his office.
The MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) or the police should be handling the investigation.
This is cause for real concern, the deputy PM does not understand such basic things.
Changeagent: What exactly is the MACC waiting for now? The anonymous blogger had already backed his claims with cash and cheque deposits slips showing that the two aides had received "contributions" of RM160,000 and RM170,000 respectively.
Their inactivity and indifference have even led the DPM to take over the investigating work himself.
Sarawakian_3ff9: It looks like the crows are coming home to roost for Umno. All these while, they are so arrogant and confident that they can rob the rakyat with impunity and there's nothing we can do because they are our master.
Now they are on the way to self-destruct and the rakyat is watching with glee and high anticipation.
Meanwhile, MACC is still hiding under the coconut shell, forgoing their sole responsibility to the rakyat, their paymaster.
Time2vote: It is common knowledge that whatever a leader does, his subordinates will follow. And in this case, it is not of any surprise to anyone that a corrupted leader will have corrupted followers.
Just look at a bigger picture at how the government is doing things. The voters must give a RIP (rest in peace) verdict to this highly corrupted political party that runs the country.
Onyourtoes: Muhyiddin will probe whether his aide has done anything wrong?
Look, you may be the country's DPM, but do you know that you have no power or jurisdiction to probe the alleged criminal wrongdoings of your aide. That is the job of MACC or the police.
You should have said that ‘I will refer this to MACC and the police to investigate the truth or otherwise of this specific allegation'.
You have no idea what constitute good governance, transparency and fair play. All you know is third world tribalism.
Cala: Onyourtoes, well said. But my guess is Muhyiddin would also not able to understand what is meant by your argument on ‘Third World tribalism', much less Socrates' allegory of the cave.
Good leaders are the exception, not the norm (Projman, 1999).
Trumpet Call: How not to be corrupted? When an employee sees his boss being crooked and corrupted, he, too, will do likewise. As the saying goes ‘monkey see, monkey do'.
If the DPM is sincere in probing the matter, then there are lots and lots of areas to be probed besides his own ministry.
What sickens the rakyat are the empty political talk that sounds so sanctimonious and righteous, yet behind the scenes, everyone is grabbing as much as they can.
How long must this disgusting charade be allowed to carry on? Surely, the crooks must sense that their time is up and that their day of reckoning is coming soon.
Cks: Muhyiddin to look into this? Is he not the Johor MB who abused the land acquisition law to grab land from a Singapore company years ago?
Armageddon: What is there for the DPM to investigate? The blogger had also given the proof. What we expect to hear is for you to suspend the secretary pending investigation by MACC.
Your promise to personally investigate is only lip service to please your voters in the coming GE.
Compass: I find it all so amusing. Are we surprised? After all, this is Umno culture, isn't it?
Umno even thinks that the right to take easy money is so sacrosanct that non-Malays shouldn't even talk about it. It can amount to sedition.
Multi Racial: Muhyiddin will look into this? This is a serious allegation and why the MACC is not directed (well, only in Malaysia, the anti-corruption agency needs to be directed otherwise they will not do anything) to investigate immediately.
Unless as DPM, there is nothing to do, he can then volunteer to do MACC's work since the commission is not doing its job in the first place.
Restless_Native: They will probe, investigate, initiate a commission of inquiry, assemble a royal panel and go through a lot of the same ‘gymnastics' ... all to reach the pre-defined conclusions of "no case", "insufficient evidence" (even if it is trotted out in front of them) or, better yet, drag it out for as long as possible and hope everyone will forget about it.
When leaders act like this, without any shred of accountability, what will it take to convince Malaysians to vote them out? How much more evidence do they need?
Foo: Why is Muhyiddin doing the investigation and not the police or MACC? Or I forgot, whoever investigates the results will still be the same.
