PAS predicts that the next general election will be held in March next year, with Parliament and the state assemblies being dissolved after the Chinese New Year on Jan 23.
Its secretary-general, Mustafa Ali, said after the dissolution of the legislative bodies, the election must be held within 60 days, and the election date will fall in March.
He claimed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) would take the opportunity of the Chinese New Year to endear itself with the Chinese community.
Mustafa told Bernama the general election has to be held then because, according to him, the government feared the fallout from the economic crisis gripping the United States and Europe.
Meanwhile, on the PAS official website, Mustafa said his prediction was based on media reports and preliminary forecasts of the nation’s economic status.
The term of the current Parliament only ends in March 2013.
