Flash floods in KL for two consecutive days

Heavy rain this afternoon caused flash floods along certain roads in Kuala Lumpur, resulting in massive traffic congestion, but the situation was not as bad as yesterday's.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Azizan Ismail said flash floods occurred in Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Bukit Bintang car park area.
"However, the situation was under control and we did not receive any emergency calls, except for one report received on rising flood water in Jalan Brunei, Pudu.
"We received the call at 6.15pm and seven firemen from the Jalan Hang Tuah fire and rescue station were despatched to the place to check the situation.
"The situation was under control and the firemen returned after 45 minutes," he added when contacted.
Yesterday, the Smart Tunnel was closed to traffic from 4.35pm to 8pm due to the heavy downpour, said its control centre (MCC).
MCC in a statement said the heavy downpour raised the water levels at Sungai Klang and Sungai Ampang above the alert level necessitating closure of the tunnel to traffic.
The downpour caused flash floods to break out in the city, leading to massive traffic snarls.
The stretch of Jalan Tun Razak (right) near the National Library was severely flooded as a result of the Sungai Bunus overflowing its banks.
Management and administrative staff of Bernama had to leave for home later than usual as the exit road from its headquarters, located on the western bank of Sungai Bunus, which connects to Jalan Tun Razak next the National Library, was cut off by floodwaters.
