The Kuantan district has been hit by the second wave of floods in Pahang this year, forcing the evacuation of 110 people to relief centres overnight.

A spokesperson from the Pahang police operations room said today the evacuees were from Kampung Sungai Isap Damai, Sungai Isap Perdana, Kampung Tiram, Kampung Segantang Lada, Kampung Razali, Tanah Putih and Cenderawasih.

All of them were moved to four relief centres in stages from midnight after their villages were flooded to a depth of 0.5 to 1.5 metres following heavy rain yesterday, he said.

Forty-two of the villagers were evacuated to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Rangin, 19 to the Kampung Tiram community hall, four to Sekolah Kebangsaan Galing and 45 to the Cenderawasih kindergarten, he told Bernama.

The spokesperson advised people living in low-lying, flood-prone areas to be prepared to evacuate as the heavy rain was continuing unabated.
