Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) and its ally PAS have yet to resolve seat allocation issue in four states, Keadilan vice-president Azmin Ali said.

But the party will meet PAS leaders next week to sort out the problem, he said.

According to Azmin, who is Hulu Kelang state assembly representative, the remaining number of parliamentary seats yet to be ironed out with PAS are Kedah (1), Selangor (2), Perak (1) and Penang (4).

"We are happy that we are able to settle these issues at state level. There is no need for our central leaders to intervene at all," he said when met after the party's political meeting in Shah Alam yesterday.

PSM factor in Subang

Although Azmin said Keadilan was prepared for the coming elections widely expected in March or April, the party has yet to resolve electoral issues with other opposition parties. Other than PAS, there is also DAP and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) to contend with.

Keadilan and DAP are also locked in a battle for seats and have yet to trash out their problems since negotiations between them were suspended last August.

Another 'potential problem' is PSM which recently announced that it would field four candidates in the coming polls.

It is learnt that Keadilan is also interested in the Subang state seat where PSM said it would field its president Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim.

However, sources say Keadilan would be willing to pave the way for PSM to contest the seat.

When contacted, PAS secretary-general Nasharuddin Mat Isa agreed that there were overlapping seats in the four states mentioned by Azmin but was unable to confirm the numbers.

Nasharuddin, who is Yan MP said the party was confident that the teething problem of seat distribution with Keadilan would be resolved in order to avoid three-cornered contests.

Selangor poser

Recently, PAS and Keadilan launched a common agenda, which among others, offered to revive local elections, introduce a one-house one-family policy and re-evaluate the various taxes imposed by the state government.

On Saturday, PAS vice-president Dr Hasan Ali also told malaysiakini that if a PAS leader were to become Selangor mentri besar, he would only accept one salary despite holding several positions like Terengganu Mentri Besar Abdul Hadi Awang.

Hasan said he believed that the offers made in the agenda and the good track record of the six Barisan Alternatif (BA) representatives in the state assembly sittings are attractive enough for the voters in Selangor to seriously consider changing the government.

But Hasan's statement is said to have caused uneasiness in the Keadilan camp as they felt that PAS was indicating they would lead the opposition in Selangor.

Keadilan has endorsed Selangor as its frontline state, said Azmin.
