'Not time yet for DAP inroads into Malay areas'

Selangor PAS today said that conditions are not yet suited for DAP to contest in Malay majority areas.

“We appreciate that the DAP is moving towards being seen as a multi-racial party, but we think that it would require more discussions,” said the Islamic party's state deputy commissioner Khalid Samad at a press conference in Shah Alam.
He was responding to questions if there were further developments on DAP's call for more Malay majority seats to be given to it. Traditionally such areas would be contested by PAS.
“We have discussed the matter of DAP contesting in Malay areas but decided against it for now as it may be used by Umno (to demonise the party).”
He explained that Umno has already been continually attacking DAP and any beachhead by the mainly Chinese-based party in Malay areas could be used by BN component parties to accuse DAP as trying to topple Umno and indirectly the Malays.
“It is not yet time for it,” Khalid concluded.
On the matter of seat negotiations in Selangor for the upcoming polls, Khalid said that as of now PAS will maintain the number of seats it already has in the state.
“We maintain the principle of status quo, but there will be some areas which may require adjustments, but the number will stay the same,” Khalid related.
Though, he added, negotiations were still ongoing.
