For three years Kelantan has been the leading state in the country for the highest number people with HIV/AIDS, and this undermines the PAS-led government's welfare state concept, according to Umno.

Kelantan Umno delegate Mohd Afandi Yusof from Rantau Panjang said PAS had shied away from having an Islamic state concept to a welfare state.

NONEAfandi said a welfare state is where a person is safe in this world and the hereafter, he added at yesterday's Umno annual general assembly session at the Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

"I have seen their concept of a welfare state as Kelantan has been under PAS rule for 21 years.

"For three years in a row PAS has had the highest number of people infected with HIV in the country.

"This is the disease brought by the PAS administration, and there is no blessing in its administration," said Afandi, who labelled the Islamic party as 'Juara HIV' (HIV champion).

He added that while PAS fights for a welfare state, the water supply is still murky and yellow.

Record-breaking 21 years

What is the welfare state that they are fighting for, he asked in debating the motion on religion, social and education.

In 21 years, he said PAS failed to resolve many issues.

NONE"They obtained a RM600 million grant to resolve the water woes many years ago.

"The country had seen three premiers namely Mahathir, Abdullah and Najib and yet the issue is not resolved," he said.

Afandi said the PAS-led government had promised to resolve the water problem in 2027, demanding to know what had happened to the fund as the people had waited for so many years for a clean water supply.

He then delivered a sombre warning that a similar fate may visit other states if they fall to the Islamic party.

He also pointed out that PAS was late in its concept of working together with other races as the BN had advanced the idea for more than 60 years.

Now since 2008, Afandi said there they have worked with DAP and PKR.

"They are late. Can we trust them?" he asked.

Step down, Nik Aziz

NONEAfandi also repeat calls for Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat (right) to resign and make way for younger leaders, after ruling the state for 21 years.

He said in the past PAS had asked former premiers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down.

"Previously, they asked Mahathir, and then Pak Lah to resign. However, the Kelantan menteri besar till today refuses to make way despite being very old," he said.

Afandi said it is timely that the PAS spiritual leader makes way for others, in particular Umno.

"Umno and BN are prepared at any time to retake and lead Kelantan," he said.
