Komtar assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik is in trouble again, this time for allegedly insulting two women who are married to foreigners, by labelling them “traitors to the country”.

According to the women - Sarimah Packeer Mohd, 43, and Fatimah Sharmin Abdullah, 30 - they were insulted by the DAP state assemblyperson.

In an Utusan Malaysia report yesterday, Sarimah alleged that Ng called her a traitor when he was handing out financial aid to fire victims along Jalan Gurdwara, at about 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Sarimah, who has been legally married to a Bangladeshi for about 15 years, told the Umno-owned newspaper that she felt terribly hurt by the insult.

“Why am I called a traitor of the country? Am I a communist?” she had reportedly asked.

“If I am married to a foreigner, that is my right. My husband has proper travel documents and our marriage is in accordance with the law,” she had said when met at the fire site last night.

Fatimah said she did not know why the politician had to make such a wild allegation.

She also regretted that Ng had “chased out” her husband from the location and allegedly told both of them to leave the country.

The two women lodged a police report against Ng at the Pattani Road police station at 10pm last night.

Ng accused of ‘balik India’ remark

Earlier this year, Ng was also caught in a controversy when he accompanied local municipal councillors (MPPP) on an operation at Gat Lebuh Macallum, where he was acused of being “rude and a racist” for allegedly asking a restaurant owner to “balik India”.

NONENg (left) had denied the allegations and apologised for the incident.

When contacted, Ng said he, too, had lodged a report about the allegations against him by “unknown individuals” at the Jalam Patani police station.

He said the report detailed that the allegations against him were “untrue and baseless” and his statements had been taken out of context.

“I strongly deny the allegations that I have used racist tones against the women. I am known to be very vocal but do not make baseless allegations against me,” he said.

Ng, who is Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary, had lodged a police report on the incident at the Northeast District Police Department in Jalan Patani today.

‘I was just doing my job’

Meanwhile, Ng related that on Nov 22 at about 5.30pm, he was at the site to hand out financial aid to victims of a fire which occurred at about 2am the previous night.

After handing out the aid, Ng, the state DAP secretary, said he continued to inspect the area.

He then contacted MPPP secretary Ang Aing Thye and licensing director Rafiah Mohd Radzi to question them on why no action was taken against an illegal recycling shop run by Bangladeshis, which purportedly caused the fire.

Before locating to Jalan Gurdwara, the same shop had operated at nearby Lebuh Nordin, and had reportedly caused a fire incident there in February, resulting in a Bangladeshi being burnt to death.

“I was not on site to cause problems to anyone. When I was approached by an unknown Bangladeshi, I did not wish to discuss the recycling shop with him when he raised the subject.

“He wanted to talk to me about reviving the shop in the area.

“I told him there is no need to discuss it here and told him to get lost, do not come around and cause trouble as there had already been two fires,” Ng added.

While he was speaking to the man, Ng said he heard a woman shouting at him that she was Malaysian, questioning him on why the YB was oppressing Malays in the area.

He told the woman he did not know who she was and what her relationship was with the Bangladeshis.

'Constituency crowded with foreigners'

“Since there are many flood incidents, there have been too many foreigners along Jalan Gurdwara and Jalan Tye Kee Yoon, and the situation is very serious,” he told reporters.

“So I asked the Penang Immigration director to conduct an operation in the area,” he added.

Ng said he was merely doing his job as Komtar assemblyperson, and trying to protect the residents and business community within his constituency.

He added that their livelihood have been undermined by too many foreigners setting-up businesses of their own here.

“The DAP has always been defending the rights and interests of all races, don’t label us or our party as Chinese chauvinists,” he said.

“I respect Malaysians but action needs to be taken against illegal foreigners who jeopardise our peaceful living here,” he added.
