PAC reveals NFC received loan before signing contract

your sayKSN: Azmi Khalid and PAC, your public accounts committee has wide powers. Use them.

It is your committee's responsibility to use its powers to expose those who abuse public funds. That is the very purpose of the PAC.

You should if, after your investigations you are still dissatisfied, recommend the immediate recall of the loan and demand punishment of those politicians and civil servants who failed to monitor and act to ensure that the public funds given to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) were used as specified.

Do not let the people down, PAC.

KJ John: Khalid, the PAC has a lot of authority and power. Elyas Omar was recalled to Parliament in the 1980s even when he was Kuala Lumpur mayor over financial improprieties that the PAC wanted him to answer for from the mid-1970s.

Therefore, PAC should have the moral audacity to call the minister and his ministry's chief secretary (KSU) to give answers, as the KSU is the controlling officer and not the minister.

Please do what is right - the people demand to know the truth about this matter in the use of public funds. Please do not close one eye as sometimes happens.

Onyourtoes: Azmi Khalid, I appreciate your frustration, but I don't think you even fathom the real issues confronting this nation.

The problem associated with public finance and mismanagement is not due to a lack of a robust system, or competency or knowledge. If these are the problems, I am sure we would have tackled them a long time ago.

The problem we face as a nation today is chronic corruption, and the systemic scheming and siphoning off of public money.

People doing all these are all too well-versed with procedures and loopholes. They circumvent whatever little checks and balance that are still in place and secure millions for themselves and their families.

It is futile, Azmi, you can't even impose RM10 salary cut on the minister or the civil servant concerned. Please don't pretend that you are doing something.

Karma: Ninety-nine percent of the people who join the Malay-based Umno, Chinese-based MCA/Gerakan and Indian-based MIC, is for the sole purpose of getting rich the easiest way - like getting direct contracts for anything from logging, construction to service supplies.

No experience is required - just bring in the votes and ensure the BN stays in power.

The Chinese have long been fed up with these abuses. So they booted out the MCA and the Gerakan.

So long as you still have the BN, even if there's a public accounts committee or royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the NFC, nothing can happen because our famous de facto law minister Nazri Abdul Aziz will say, 'they have broken no law'.

What happened to the RCIs for Teoh Beng Hock and VK Lingam? In both cases, the perpetrators were found liable for crimes and  prosecution in a court of law was recommended. Yet nothing happened.

Charges againstEx-minister for international trade and industry Rafidah Aziz had also been recommended in connection with the allotment of bumiputera shares. She is still flying around in business class cabins.

VoteforChange: Things will never improve without someone's head rolling.

Kelantanese: Azmi Khalid, we appreciate your expression of concern, but you being from the BN does not inspire much confidence in us over what you can do.

PAC had been doing its job for donkey years and nothing happens. You and your BN/Umnoputras have failed miserably on every possible count, too many to list here.

Abasir: The fact that Azmi has thrown in "good intentions" is a clear indication of the escape clause he is providing the hordes of incompetent order takers under the direction of chief secretary of the government Sidek Hassan, who himself has proved to be nothing more than a political functionary.

The mess we have here is the clearest manifestation of 'saya yang menurut perintah' Umno: the tag line of a totally Umno-ized civil service.

Up2U: It is not about the late signing of contract after the disbursement of funds or management systems, it's about the gross negligence of senior civil servants - the little Napoleans, the interference of the politicians and above all, the many corrupt practices that seemingly go unpunished.

That is giving the BN a bad name, and deservedly so.

JBGUY: The role of the PAC is to unearth malfeasance in relation to the rakyat's money. They are not there to furnish excuses for departments or ministries which have erred.

Azmi as chairperson should be duty bound to bring to book all those guilty of misspending the rakyat's hard-earned money.
