A police investigating officer (IO) implicated in the loss of RM11,700 and several other exhibits from the Selangor contingent headquarters has been transferred to another department.

Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar said the IO was sent to an administrative department with immediate effect, but declined to say which police contingent.

He said the move (to transfer) was to ensure that investigations could be carried out smoothly, adding that the internal probe into the matter was under way.

“If there was any misuse of power or not complying with procedures, we will take appropriate action,” he told a news conference after attending the opening of the new Selangor police contingent headquarters by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in Shah Alam today.

The missing exhibits were recovered from two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers who were accused of robbery.

It is learnt the IO had placed the exhibits inside a drawer in his room.

There were signs that the drawer lock was tampered with.

On Nov 8, he discovered the loss of the items.

Selangor police chief Deputy Commissioner Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah was reported to have said the forensics department had obtained the fingerprints of 26 policemen to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 and 201 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and disposal of evidence.

Three MACC officers, aged between 20 and 35, and holding the ranks of acting assistant commissioner, senior assistant superintendent and assistant superintendent, are accused of robbing a moneychanger of US$300,000 (RM951,000) at the KL International Airport on Sept 15.

The officers have since been suspended.
