Sabah's flamboyant politician Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has been 'in and out' of so many political parties in his political career and in recent days, he is believed to be keen to rejoin Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

This time though, few can say anything negative about his action - Jeffrey has been party-less since he lost in a leadership tussle in Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) last year. He subsequently left the party.

His application to join Umno was rejected by the party in February this year.

Now talks are abound in Sabah that Jeffrey is toying with the idea of going back to PBS, the party led by his elder brother and former Sabah Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

However, Pairin said in Tawau yesterday that PBS would consider Jeffrey's application to rejoin the party if he applies through the proper channel.

But he was also non-committal about accepting his brother back saying that "the decision rested with the party's supreme council".

According to a Star report today, Pairin said that Jeffrey has not made any application.

A former deputy housing and local government minister, Jeffrey left PBS to join PBRS after winning the Bingkor state seat in the 1999 state election.

He also served as the powerful director of the Sabah Foundation when the PBS was in power in Sabah from 1985 to 1994.

Jeffrey, also a former ISA detainee and once considered a political radical, is said to have mellowed and now more willing to accept the political realities in the state.

As PBS is now back in the Barisan Nasional fold, Jeffrey is probably viewing the party as an attractive option to pursue his political struggle and ambition.

After being in the opposition from 1995, PBS was accepted into the ruling BN two years ago.
