As Alor Star gets set for its proclamation as a city today, a deranged man who frequently takes off his clothings in public was detained by enforcement personnel from the Kota Star Municipal Council (MPKS) yesterday.

Acording to Bernama, the man had earlier been seen wandering around naked at Dataran Tunku, the venue for the proclamation ceremony. The Sultan of Kedah will officially declare Alor Star as a city at 8.30pm tonight.

Ten enforcement personnel from MPKS in civilian clothes had been going after the man since yesterday morning and finally caught him at 5.30pm.

An embarrassment

A spokesman from the enforcement unit said the man was detained along the river bank near Dataran Tunku after a chase.

He said the man had to be detained as it was feared that he could cause an embarrassment during the full-dress rehearsal last night and the actual ceremony to praclaim Alor Star as a city today.

He said the man, who used to expose his private part to young women, had been handed over to police for further action.
