vox populi small thumbnailBender: When Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Kedai 1Malaysia products should be compared as ‘apple to apple', what does that mean? That we cannot compare its products with other branded products out there?

Which are the products out there that can be considered equal in quality with Kedai 1Malaysia products? In other words, what Ismail is saying is Kedai 1Malaysia products are of such low quality, we shouldn't even be comparing them with other products out there?

The lab tests and the experiments have proven this to be true. My God, I can't believe our government is poisoning its own people. Isn't it enough that they have been robbing us all these years, and now they're trying to ‘kill' us, too?

Josephine: In fact, considering Tesco and Carrefour are global brands, the 1Malaysia brand products should be cheaper.

Sometimes the government takes us citizens for fools, for how can a business survive if their prices are over 40 percent cheaper than their competitors?

Swipenter: This ‘feel good' Kedai 1Malaysia is just another scheme to cheat the rakyat. A very ingenious scheme to con the customers into thinking that they are getting a good deal.

Cheating at the expense of the rakyat's health is akin to playing with their lives for a quick ringgit.

Calvert Yap: This is a disgrace to all Malaysians, regardless of race. Najib says he wants to help us save money, but his wife is carrying some of the most expensive bags you can find in the world.

And now, the goods sold at Kedai 1Malaysia are indeed more expensive. Even worse, they try to poison those rakyat who believe in him and buy his so-called "cheaper" milk?

Santhos Perry: Ismail Sabri and his family should be fed with Kedai 1Malaysia products and should not be allowed to be admitted to any hospital when they fall ill after consuming them.

Sarajun Hoda: Well done, Pakatan Rakyat. This is what is called responsible opposition - helping the government to correct its wrongs, not just to condemn only.

Mangodurian: In as much whether this is true or not, I think perhaps Pakatan should time this better a bit on this Kedai 1Malaysia issue and spread out the criticism.

Yes, they are valid, but with three revelations in as many days, it is starting to sound more like barking.

Considering that this is a test commissioned by Pakatan, it gives the impression of a smear campaign - which really means this is backfiring and gives BN supporters credence.

JusticeKini:  The BN is apparently going to subsidise Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia to the tune of RM40 million in Budget 2012. Now we have this E. coli bacteria. Cheap things are not good and good things not cheap.

Bob Teoh: In the first place Umno and its cronies are supposed to be running a government not a kedai runcit.

Joe Lee: Very well said, Professor Abdul Aziz Bari. The people of Selangor have a clear choice - to go back to the pre-modern world of feudalism where the lord calls all the shots, or a modern democracy where the people are in charge.

It is clear that the black hands of Umno are at play here. They can't win it democratically so they are using their people in the various departments of government - both federal and state - to undermine  Pakatan state governments.

The sultan must understand that he compromises the institution of royalty if he is seen by the people as having taken a position that is contrary to the sovereignty and popular will of the people.

Umno will not rule for much longer and the sultan will be well-advised not to put all his eggs in the one basket.

Ashoka PJ: This action is not out of concern for Islam - it is all about politics using religion as a cover.

It is difficult for the Malay layperson to separate religion from politics and the easiest way to control them will be indoctrination through the guise of Islam. As a Muslim, I am ashamed.

Anoymous: I am just curious why give Mais (Selangor Islam Affairs Council) the power to collect and distribute zakat as well as fitrah and free the council's account from being audited by the auditor-general? Can someone answer this question?

Kingfisher: Prof Aziz Bari's clarity and reasoning exemplifies an age-old truism that quality and intelligence abounds in many ordinary people and that noble status or privileged birth is not bequeathed with a monopoly in intelligence.

His intellectual honesty is an asset to a nation aspiring to attain better standards of living for all its citizens.

Let the nation nurture true wisdom through scholarship and honest hard work and not contain knowledge and progress by protecting and promoting the interests of those who for the wrong reasons, unwittingly, want to turn the clock of civilisation backwards.

Swipenter: The good professor is ‘going where angels fear to tread'. Yes, it takes a lot of courage, conviction and selflessness to come out and speak as he does. I think Prof Aziz is prepared for the worst.
