Petroleum Nasional Berhad (Petronas) today clarified that there was no raid carried out on Petronas and no files or documents were carried away by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Petronas, in a statement today, said the MACC visit was part of its standard operating procedure after receiving complaints.

“Officials of MACC were at the Petronas headquarters recently to facilitate its first information report procedure, which is part of the agency’s standard operating procedures following any complaint of alleged wrongdoing,” it said.

A news portal reported today that the MACC had raided Petronas after receiving tip-offs on alleged corruption by project consultants working on exploration and production efforts in Malaysian waters.

“Petronas would like to reiterate its strong commitment and adherence to internationally recognised process and procedures in its award and tendering process and has a zero tolerance policy against corrupt practices,” the statement said.
