Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will visit Brunei tomorrow for a trip aimed at enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries, the Bernama news agency said.

Abdullah's visit, at the invitation of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, would be his first to one of the 10 countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) since he became prime minister on October 31, Bernama said today.

Abdullah, who returned to Malaysia late Friday from Tokyo where he attended a two-day summit between Japan and Asean, was scheduled to have an audience with the Sultan and attend a state banquet hosted by him.

Bilateral issues

Abdullah's entourage would include nine cabinet ministers, the chief ministers of Sabah and Sarawak and senior government officials.

Ministers from both countries would meet to discuss bilateral issues, Bernama said.

Abdullah was also due to attend a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering with the Malaysian community in Brunei hosted by the Malaysian high commissioner there.

The one-day trip is to reciprocate a visit by the Sultan and his cabinet to neighbouring Sarawak to attend Malaysia's national Hari Raya celebrations in Sarawak's capital of Kuching. - AFP
