A Barisan Nasional state assemblyperson today questioned the Selangor government’s transparency in appointing council members in the tender committee of the local authorities (PBT).
Mohd Isa Abu Kasim (BN-Batang Kali) said such an act could raise suspicions on the decisions made by the committee.
“I still remember that prior to this the state government says it wants transparency in its administration, including at the PBT level.
“Why the need to have council members who are representatives from political parties to be in the tender committee,” he said in a supplementary question to state Local Government Committee chairperson Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew in the Selangor state assembly today.
In his reply, Liu said it was a normal practise, adding that the council members’ role in the committee was as observers and that their presence was welcomed by the council president and local government officers.
“Their presence is to provide a check and balance in the committee,” he added.
