MCA today said the PKR-DAP-PAS opposition pact should lead by example by reducing the number of civil servants in states under their control, instead of doing it only if they manage to take over the federal government.

The party said the statement by DAP publicity chief Tony Pua on the party's plan to trim the number of civil servants if they could take over the federal government had been dismissed by PAS.

PAS organ Harakah had quoted party vice-president Mahfuz Omar as saying that there had been no discussion on reducing the number of civil servants among the pact partners.

"DAP also shows no commitment on the issue. If Pakatan Rakyat really wants to cut down the number of civil servants, they should have done so in their own states first.

“But until today, no action has been taken by them in Penang, Selangor, Kedah and even Kelantan," said MCA Selangor secretary Wong Koon Mun in a statement.

He said Pua had constantly attacked the federal government, but when Selangor decided to increase the allowances of its own state assemblymen and civil servants, and to outsource projects to consultants instead of using their own state resources, the party did not criticise these moves.

"Therefore, I challenge DAP to implement its policies to prove that it is not deceiving the people, and start reducing the number of civil servants in Penang first," he added.
