PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim is not able to control PAS within Pakatan Rakyat and will bow to the Islamic party, especially on the issue of hudud law, MCA's Labis MP Chua Tee Yong claims.

NONE"Even if Anwar Ibrahim becomes the prime minister, the real power will be held by PAS and Anwar will not be able to stop the implementation of hudud and the goals of PAS to set up an Islamic state," Chua (left) said in a statement today.

Responding to a statement by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng that Anwar was Pakatan's choice for prime minister, Chua said Anwar could not be premier if his party has no have final say on issues.

The most obvious example, he said, was PAS' insistence on implementing hudud even though it is not listed in Pakatan's Buku Jingga.

"PAS is actually implementing Islamic policies in Kelantan and other states under Pakatan Rakyat, ignoring the common policy listed down in the Buku Jingga - which shows that Anwar cannot stop PAS."

Chua, who is also MCA Young Professionals Bureau chairperson, added that there have been inconsistencies over who should be prime minister, with PAS having earlier suggested that its president Abdul Hadi Awang was a more suitable candidate.

He added that Anwar had agreed it was okay for DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang to be deputy prime minister, but PAS later countered that Lim had to first be a Muslim.

For these reasons, Chua said, the opposition coalition could not be trusted.
