vox populi small thumbnailBender: When Batu MP Tian Chua moved a motion in Parliament to cut Prime Minister Najib Razak's salary for one month, they all became so angry.

Now why don't those who oppose the salary cut suggest how are we going to recover the RM1.4 billion that Najib and Co had stolen from the rakyat?

We're no longer talking about one month salary of one individual here. We're talking about life savings of the nation that Najib had robbed. Even if we take into account the monthly salary of all honest working Malaysians, I doubt the amount would reach that number.

The amount of Najib's one-month salary is a mere speck compared to this RM1.4 billion. I wonder what was the real purpose of Najib going to haj because he clearly has not repented.

Rocky: The fund has been around since PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's time and if I'm not wrong, it has not been touched. It is to be used for emergency purposes and needs to be replenished.

The PM, who is also the finance minister, must explain the following: why was the fund touched, how was the money used and will it be replenished?

Anonymous_4118: Greece's bureaucracy is famous in the whole of Europe - to open a cafe or pub there are 25 processes to go through.

It has 1.05 million civil servants (excluding police and armed forces). The population of Greece is only 10 million. Indeed, more than 10 percent of its population are government servants.

Greece is the most corrupted nation in the Eurozone. Its citizens pay ‘under table' money to be admitted into a public hospital, pass a driving test, enter public service, renovate their business premises or their home, and avoid paying income tax.

Are we sure we're talking about Greece here?

BN dissidents struggle to be heard, join pressure group

Ferdtan: Politicians are just like what General Douglas MacArthur said: "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away."

However, our ‘old politicians' are one step better, they would somehow find ways to pop up out of nowhere when they smell opportunities for themselves.

These 'has-beens' - the retired and ousted politicians - are all flocking to the newly-formed Angkatan Amanah Merdeka that aspires to work within the framework of the ruling BN government.

You have out-of-favour members of parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and Ong Tee Keat, ex-minister Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir and former MIC deputy president S Subramaniam with one aim - to pressure BN government in the countdown towards the next general election to gain 'political and monetary' concessions.

These BN dissidents are not seriously talking about reforms: they are doing what BN members like to demand 'What's in for me? Do I get nominated to stand for the next election?'

RR: The country is already on the road to a two-party system - BN and Pakatan Rakyat. Both the parties' manifestos declare that they are for the rakyat's welfare.

As such, these BN veterans should choose the opposition to serve the rakyat if they have no freedom within their own party.

Don't complicate the political system with too many parties by breaking away from BN or Pakatan. Join one of the two coalitions. We cannot have a strong government by dilution or having too many parties.

Anonymous_401a: There are more than 1,000 NGOs in Malaysia . Why so many? Ask ROS (Registrar of Societies).

As for the NGOs, which are formed specifically so that their members can be heard, this may come as news to some.

When I wanted to table a resolution at the MCA AGM in 2008, I was told to get it endorsed by the branch chairperson, then the division leader, then the state liaison committee chief, who will forward it to the head of Wanita MCA.

If she approves, then only could it be tabled at the AGM. No thanks, MCA.

Onyourtoes: These politicians are just itching to go back to BN leadership positions. It has nothing to do with new ideas or ideas not heard. If you are in BN leadership today, you will be doing the same thing, if not worse.

A right person cannot be in a wrong party. Get real, my friends.


Mufti 'shocked' by PM, Rosmah's express haj

Anonymous_3f55: Another shocker was Haji Najib Abdul Razak's comments about the security provided to him to perform the haj.

He attributed to God's grace that he was given the privilege by the Saudi government. How nice if the same privilege can be accorded to 2,499,998 others.

Security provided to perform a religious rite is utter nonsense. Everyone should be seen as equal before the eyes of the Almighty.

Docs: In the old days Prophet Muhammad made the Haj pilgrimage from Medina to Mecca riding on camel back through the harshness of the desert in the blistering heat of the day and the coldness of the nights.

These days a certain leader (and his first lady) makes a hurried Haj pilgrimage riding in a private jet which is paid by taxes that were collected by infidels. Times have changed.
