All government hospitals and clinics will issue detailed bills stating the actual cost of the medical treatment of a patient who has received treatment, from next year.

Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the move would be made so that patients would know the actual cost of the government medical service of which they only had to pay RM1.

"We will list down every service given and the cost, and then we will tell them they need only pay RM1 while the rest is paid by the government," he told reporters after launching the dental clinic information system at the Maharani Clinic compound, in Muar today.

He said, in this manner, each patient would be aware of the exact cost of his or her medical treatment which was borne by the government.

For example, Liow said, a person receiving treatment at a dental clinic only had to pay RM10 to RM100, when the actual cost incurred was many times more.

Earlier, Liow approved a request for a 1Malaysia clinic in Muar from Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Razali Ibrahim, who is also the MP for Muar.
