Infighting giving BN leaders sleepless nights

Barisan Nasional's internal brawling is worrying its leaders, especially when it come to selecting candidates for the coming general elections.

Deputy BN chief and Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin admitted worrying over the problem.

"Truly, I am worried. However, we are taking immediate steps to resolve this," he told reporters after delivering his keynote address at BN's information campaign at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang.

"We will manage the situation. We have held meetings with some of the BN component parties to resolve this," he said.

The deputy BN chief did not, however, disclose the measures taken to address the problem.

Muhyiddin is on a one-day blitz in Selangor in the attempt to wrest the rich state back from the Pakatan Rakyat which captured it in 2008.

His campaign themed 'Love Selangor, Believe BN' itinerary also included Dengkil, Kuala Langat, Serdang, Kajang and Puchong.

BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak had launched the campaign on Oct 8 with his tour of the state constituencies of Ijok, Kuang, Rawang and Gombak Setia, where he exclaimed that he was buoyed by the support shown.

Muhyiddin said although reports suggest that the BN is in the best position now for the polls, the need is there for further feedback to get the actual picture.

Speaking before 1,500 supporters at the event, Muhyiddin reminded BN members not to "sleep" as general election is fast approaching.

"Do not quarrel with each another. Do not burden leaders with problems in divisions and branches. Whatever the problems there are resolve them now before they impact on the outcome of the polls.

"Learn from the last general election where there were pledges to support BN candidates. However, in the end, such promises were not kept," he said.

'Love Selangor, believe in BN'

Muhyiddin described his visit as positive based on the indication of good support from the people and more than his anticipated turnout.

"I hope this is a good sign of the people returning to BN," he said.

Also present were Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan and Selangor BN deputy chairperson Noh Omar.

Noh in his speech reminded BN members to remained united no matter who the chosen candidates are.

"If the people want change and the leaders work hard to achieve it, I believe we caan win the coming general election," said the agriculture and agro-based minister.
