Armageddon: Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is trying to impress that he is a fair man. Right after the rally, he firmly denied that there was aggression and even claimed that the police were doing an excellent job.

But after being shown the video clips, he had no choice but to admit police brutality. We are glad that he now admits it. Next, we want to know what action will be taken against the culprit.

Quigonbond: Hisham, are you saying that since only one cop is bad, then it's okay? When does it become wrong? 10 cops? 20?

The fact that the police denied being in the wrong right at the beginning despite overwhelming video evidence to the contrary is a typical display of police arrogance.

The police's blanket denial belies the breach of SOP (standard operation procedure) by many more police officers, probably acting on the instructions of the IGP (inspector-general of police) and the minister.

Also, by saying one officer is wrong and subjecting him to disciplinary action, you've found yourself a scapegoat. So much for team spirit within the police force.

If I were the other police officers, I'd think twice about obeying your orders or those of the higher-ups next time when it comes to political repression, because obviously the buck does not stop with you or the IGP.

This poor cop is not the only culprit, but a scapegoat.

Rais hits back at Guan Eng on national language use

Onyourtoes: Information Minister Rais Yatim, please stop talking baloney; the whole world knows you are just trying to pick on anything and everything Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng does in Penang.

That in fact demonstrates that Lim and the policies being pursued are to be reckoned with. He must have done so many things right that he made you envious.

Let me tell you this - language and culture are living creatures. Whether they survive and flourish or they die a lingering death are dependent on many factors besides official decrees and what you mandate.

Louis: Rais Yatim, you are simply pathetic and despicable. I thought you were the most respected and learned among the ministers, but the latest remarks on Lim indicate your mentality is no different from the rest of the leaders.

Is it the culture of Umno and BN to tell lies and exploit every small issue just to score points?

Being a lawyer, it is a shame that you cannot differentiate between a private function and a state function.

In this case, Lim has no business to tell the organiser what language to use. And for you to blow up the issue just to spite Lim removes the respect the public has for you. This is no way to win votes.

RAW: Why didn't the complainant himself who was at the function raise the issue of language with the organiser there right on the spot instead of transferring the blame to CM Lim?

It is not the job of the CM to check that every private college in the state uses BM during functions. The one who is unhappy should be the one to raise the issue with the college.

Jeremy Ng: Pre-election period will always churn out many political opportunist clowns. They will try all ways and means to seek maximum publicity.

I am shocked that in a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-language society, there is a policymaker who takes offence and harps on the non-use of BM in a private function.

I am certain that Bahasa Malaysia is accepted as the country official language. However, the importance of English (probably Mandarin as well) should not be underestimated.

Demonisation of these languages is going to hamper and obstruct progress. In many instances, their sincerity for the language is not genuine.

It is indeed a mockery when their family members are parked overseas to study where BM is not the medium of instruction.
