Bersih 2.0 has called on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to debunk a claim that his office had attempted to pay a DAP elected representative to declare himself an Independent member of the Johor state assembly.

najib at mca youth agm Steering committee member Wong Chin Huat said it was vital that Najib cleared the air on the allegation, as failure to do so would bring down his credibility.

"The claim by DAP Johor (on) the RM150,000 offer highlights another of Bersih's demands, which is to do away with corruption.

"We call on the PM to clear his name, or file a suit against this person, because silence only means that it is true and he (the PM) would lose all moral authority to pursue reform," Wong told a press conference today in the Parliament lobby.

Wong was referring to a claim NONE by Bentayan state assemblyperson Gwee Tiong Hiang ( right ), that he had been approached by an ‘agent’ - claiming to represent the prime minister - to negotiate for his defection from DAP.

Gwee claimed the offer included a RM150,000 one-off payment, 50 acres of land, at least RM5,000 in extra monthly allowance, a service centre and a personal assistant, should he agree to jump ship.

He said the agent also gave the assurance of support in facing DAP in the 13th general election.

Gwee lodged two separate police reports in Muar on Oct 1 and 2, and a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Batu Pahat office yesterday.

It is understood that he has furnished - as evidence - five audio recordings, including that of a telephone conversation and a meeting he had with the purported agent.
