MCA beats war drums as election looms

Onyourtoes: MCA, your representation in BN is one of non-consequence. So it does not matter if you have decided to opt out completely if the next election gives you guys the same or worse results.

The difference between you and DAP is obvious. You are supporting a group of Malays who want to perpetuate exclusiveness and supremacy over others. DAP is working with Malays who believe in genuine cooperation and equality.

See for yourself the difference in performance of Lim Guan Eng as opposed to Koh Tsu Koon as the Penang chief minister. See for yourself the performance of the Selangor government in dealing with the various communities in the state after March 2008.

And see for yourself the performance of the Pakatan government of Perak (before they were dethroned through unconstitutional means). You and MCA can't see it because you are blinded by your own vested interests. See for yourself how Selangor MCA has brought up the land premium issue that has made the party look stupid.

See the endemic corruption that MCA has been involved in - rarely has the BN government given you power, and yet you have screwed up big time, such as in the case of Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ).

You fellows made the Chinese lose their respect in this country. Perhaps DAP may face the same problem as MCA when dealing with some Malays in PKR and PAS, but I believe the DNA of DAP is different from MCA. DAP has the courage, the principles and the dignity to stand up against inequality, bullying and the master-and-slave mentality.

For MCA, you have the wrong DNA. Each of you is getting involved in politics to look for your own opportunities, projects and positions. You are tolerant of being kicked around, being given ceremonial positions and perks, and being subservient so long as the perks and opportunities continue to flow your way.

That is the difference, MCA chief Chua Soi Lek. You have been in politics, I believe, all your life. What substantive changes have you brought to the people you claim to represent?

Clever Voter: I think the MCA is missing the point. Voters, irrespective of ethnic origins, are tired of the lies being propagated over and over again.

Most of us voted for change - the opposition parties offer attractive propositions. Recent performance of both Selangor and Penang governments have proven the point.

MCA continues to remind us of Tunku Abdul Rahman College and University - but that is relative when you consider the number of public universities that have sprouted throughout the country, and many do not even make the mark.

Apart from the MCA founding fathers, can we recall one party leader in modern times whom the community can be proud of?

Jeremy Tankh: MCA chief Chua Soi Lek said, "It is time to punish PAS by not voting for DAP", for what PAS might do in the future.

But the Chinese want to punish Umno by not voting for MCA, for what Umno has been doing to the nation.

Chua added that DAP should prove its multiracial credentials by putting up Chinese candidates in Malay areas to prove that they are accepted by all.

Like MCA? Where else could MCA more likely win, other than in an Umno stronghold where the majority are Malays?

Wira: Over 80 percent of the Chinese in this country are supporting Pakatan. These MCA leaders represent only 20 percent of the community.

Yet those kowtow-to-corrupt-Umno leaders talk as if they speak for every Chinese, pitting their 20 percent against the overwhelming 80 percent who support DAP, PAS and PKR.

Joe Lee: Chua Soi Lek, we already know the truth. Since 1981 when Dr Mahathir Mohamad was elected PM, you have been sub-contracted by Umno to hoodwink the Chinese voters.

You are in it for yourselves - please don't claim that you are doing it for anybody else.


Chua: I'm a 'winnable candidate' everywhere

Anonymous: I don't like CSL (Chua Soi Lek), nor MCA. But here I am of the opinion we should forgive CSL for his adultery.

I know that's not fair. But nobody says that forgiveness is fair. It takes men and women with a big heart to forgive his/her wrongdoers. We can't be throwing stones at CSL till eternity. Let him begin a new chapter of his life.

But I suggest that come GE13, he contests in the most populated Chinese area to settle whatever issue that is plaguing him and the Chinese community because of him.

If he loses, he should accept it and retire from politics. But if he wins, then the Chinese community should accept it and let him move on. Fair?

Anonymous_3e0b: The curtain is fast coming down on Soi Lek. It is unbecoming for a MCA president to be so arrogant and bossy while trying hard to outdo all his predecessors. Remember, humility is a virtue.

Anonymously: In most urban places, where people are better informed, Chua will lose his deposit.

Cala: The truth of the matter is, Chua has won the beachhead by defeating Ong in the last party election.

In Sun Tzu's ‘The Art of War', one does not have to do anything, keep a cool head and conserve one's energy. For Chua to engage in a verbal war with Ong is not being wise.

Anonymous: Of course, Chua can win anywhere because Umno would give him 1,000 Rela votes, 3,000 postal votes, 2,000 Bangladeshi votes and 2,000 Indonesian votes.
