Sapp mocks BN over Project IC snub

The Sabah Progressive Party (Sapp) yesterday mocked Sabah BN component parties for failing to convince the federal government to acknowledge the existence of the so-called Project IC.

Referring to Deputy Home Minister Lee Chee Leong's denial of Project IC's existence on Thursday, Sapp deputy president Eric Majimbun said this was a major blow for Sabah BN.
He said the deputy minister's remark was also a major embarrassment for the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko), which recently called for the establishment of a royal commission of inquiry on the Project IC allegations.
Project IC refers to a longstanding allegation that government agencies were part of a wide-scale operation to increase the Muslim population in Sabah to dilute the influence of the Christian community.
The theory popularised by former Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) leader Dr Chong Eng Leong was that Muslims from the southern Philippines and Indonesia were being given Malaysian citizenships and are coaxed to vote for Umno.
At the Upko triennial delegates congress on Sept 24, party president Bernard Dompok said in his opening speech that Sabah's population had increased drastically, particularly between 1990 and 2000.
He said that stunning statistics warrants the establishment of a royal commission to investigate the matter.
Enough evidence
Majimbun has described Lee's request for proof to back claims of the existence of Project IC as another blow for Sabah BN.
"This is absurd since Upko has submitted memorandums on the matter and there are books written by Mutalib MD and Chong. These are good enough," said Majimbun.
Majimbun, who is also the Sepanggar MP, said that he had highlighted this issue several times in Parliament and during BN meetings.
"But the former and present prime minister failed to take any action," he said.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said that the federal government has not ruled out the possibility of forming an inquiry probe to project the Project IC claims.
