The Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) has denied practising discrimination against graduates, who are seeking practical training opportunities, on the basis of the race.

Instead, HKL processes the applications on the basis of suitability of qualifications held by applicants, said its director, Dr Zaninah Mohd Zain in a statement.

She was commenting on reports in Chinese dailies, Guan Ming Daily and Sin Chew Daily today on an allegation by a complainant that HKL turned down a request from her daughter, Arniza Khairani Mohd Jamil, a forensic science graduate, as her mother is not a Malay.

Qualification not suitable

Dr Zaninah said a training placement sought by the complainant's daughter was turned down due to unsuitability of her qualification as she majored in forensic science while HKL provided forensic medical services.

"Instead the complainant's daughter is more suitable to undergo training at the Chemistry Department, a government forensic science laboratory based in Petaling Jaya.

"The Chemistry Department has a wide range of forensic science laboratories such as a toxicology lab, a DNA/ballistics lab and a biology lab, which would be more appropriate for the complainant's daughter qualification," said Dr Zaninah in a statement.

She said applications for attachments at HKL were being processed based on procedures set by the Ministry of Health and not based on preferential treatment based on race.
