Vote PKR for strong Penang voice, Malays told

Boiling Mud: Penang Deputy Chief Minister Mansor Othman, it is true that PKR had done remarkably well in the 12th GE, pocketing 31 parliamentary seats.

However, we must not lose sight of the fact that the phenomenal victory of Pakatan Rakyat was undeniably due to the general trend then - the widely dissatisfied electorate voted for anyone but a BN candidate.

And why are you still harping about racial representation when the only way for this country to move forward is to move as one - as Malaysians?

The ongoing squabbles on seat allocation among the Pakatan component parties (especially between PKR and DAP) are not inspiring a lot of confidence in the electorate.

Instead of being frozen in a time-warp where race is everything, can you lead by example as one united force? I am actually disgusted.

Sabahan: If Malays will only fight for Malay rights, Chinese only fight for Chinese rights, and Indians only for Indian rights, we might all just give up and migrate.

Politicians are voted in to fight for the rights of all citizens, irrespective of race, colour, creed and political preference. I hope the Pakatan leaders will remember this.

Anonymous_5fb: We all know Umno wants to embed in the mind of the Malays, especially those from rural areas, that only Umno can take care of their interests.

To fight against this, Pakatan should not use the same warped logic to shift the Malay votes from Umno.

Instead, all the parties in Pakatan, in particular PKR, should educate the rakyat, especially the Malays, that Pakatan is for all Malaysians, if not, the word 'rakyat' should not form part of its name.

So it's wrong for Mansor to use the 'strong representation for Malays in Penang government' argument to convince those in Umno's constituencies to vote for Pakatan.

To say so will only let Umno enhance their warped logic that Malays are indeed marginalised in Penang by the DAP-led state government.

2cts Worth: The way I see it, the most winnable person should stand. That means the person who has gone to the ground to toil - the person who has rapport with the people. Race is not the criteria nor is the component party he comes from.

Anonymous: What is so unwise about fielding Malay candidates from DAP in Malay-majority areas? DAP is more than able to take care of Malay needs, and Muslims too.

Don't believe the myth propagated by Umno that DAP is a Chinese-chauvinist party. This is done in order for Umno to stay in power.

Traderx: I'm Chinese, working under a Malay boss and he is fair and competent. As long as the leader is fair and clean, we wouldn't mind if represented by someone with a different skin colour.

Once PKR starts all these issues of racial representatives, it will again lead to the same problems brought on by BN today.

Another 50 years will pass and Malaysia will remain the same as today - no progress and no further development in terms of prosperity and mindset.

ONG: According to Mansor's logic, even if Malay voters prefer a DAP Malay candidate to an Umno candidate and an Umno candidate over the PKR Malay candidate, he still wants his PKR Malay candidate to stand and lose to Umno.

Proarte: This man is a stooge of Anwar and it is therefore not surprising he is playing Umno-style racial politics. What in effect he is saying is that DAP, as a Chinese-based party, cannot represent Malays effectively and fairly.

Malays will be 'lost' if they are represented by Chinese. Now how racist and disgusting is this? By the same token, is he saying that PKR as a Malay-based party cannot effectively represent Chinese and Indians?

I have a suggestion for Mansor and Anwar - go back and join Umno like the rest of your Malay 'reformasi' comrades and play your filthy racial politics.

Arbeena: Worry not, the Malays should better work with the Malays first before they start working with others.

Faz: Mansor, please distance yourself from the racial moulds that Umno-BN has set up for us as Umno-BN is too experienced in this art of mind-bending - it's a case of heads Umno wins, and tails Pakatan loses.

It's better to talk about the suitable candidates that will appeal to the electorates with issues that cut through racial barriers. If Umno looks after the Malays; MCA, the Chinese and MIC, the Indians, PKR or Pakatan should champion the fact that their candidates will look after all Malaysians, if the need arise.

Let demolish the myths put up by Umno-BN for good. They are worth destroying as they are the thorns in the thinking of all Malaysians.

DesiKhan: PKR is a multi-racial party, so why only get the Malays to support it.

You might as well give advise to all Malaysians in whichever state seat to also support a Malay candidate so that they will also have a better representation in the State Assembly.
