Perak gov't not involved in hosting Miss Bikini pageant

The Perak government is not involved in organising Miss Bikini/World Hawaii at Pangkor Island Beach Resort scheduled for Oct 7 and 8, said state Tourism and Women’s Affairs Committee chairperson Hamidah Osman.

She said the Manjung District Council had been ordered to stop the planned beauty pageant at the resort on Pangkor Island as it did not get a permit to do so.
“The local authority will be asked to provide a report on the beauty contest as it could tarnish the image of the country and have a negative impact on society.
“Although the beauty pageant is being organised by the private sector, the state government takes a serious view of the matter as it run contrary to eastern culture and customs,” she told reporters in Ipoh today.
She was commenting on a report that the resort was planning to host Miss Bikini/World Hawaii 2011 Malaysia and Malaysia Club DJ Mixing Challenge 2011 - National Grand Final as part of the Full Moon Beach Party with special packages offered to guests.
In its response, the resort said the programme would not involve any competitions and it would be part of beach clothing promotions by two apparel companies.
“We will ensure that the event will not transgress the boundaries of eastern culture and only local and foreign models will be taking part,” it said in a statement.
