EC drops 50 dubious names and 2 foreigners

The Election Comission (EC) has accepted Shah Alam PAS’ objection towards the electoral roll and has agreed to drop 52 names from it who are suspected to be foreigners.

Selangor PAS deputy commissioner Khalid Samad (left) said that those dropped were from a list of 58 names that the party had submitted to the EC in its objection.
The decision comes after the EC held a hearing on the objections raised by PAS on Monday.
The other six names, however, were retained in the electoral roll as the EC was satisfied with their explanation.
During a press conference at the Selangor PAS headquarters today, Khalid claimed that two of the names that were dropped from the electoral roll were believed to be Indonesian nationals, who had attended the hearing.
He said that their names were Erman Syamsuddin and Edi Rabaini, voters in Kampung Jawa and Kampung Kuantan, both of which are within the Shah Alam parliamentary constituency.
“They came when we made the objections to the EC. They were called to attend. (When we) make objections, those whose names were objected to must come. If they do not come, then they are presumed not to be a resident and dropped.
“They didn't even register as voters... They said they did not sign any forms and spoke with a heavy Indonesian accent,” said Khalid, who is also Shah Alam MP.
He said the other six were accepted because all of them had in fact registered as voters and reside in Shah Alam.
According to Khalid, the party must pay RM10 for every objection it makes and has to fork out an additonal RM150 for every person who attends the objection hearing as “compensation for them to take leave and go to the EC’s office”.
PAS has since paid the required fees, he added.
‘90 percent were never registered by anyone’
Also present at the press conference was Selangor PAS secretary Khairuddin Othman, who said the hearing in Kuala Selangor was held today whereas the one in Subang was held earlier.
“Of the objections, we succeeded with 90 percent of them. Meaning that 90 percent of them, they were never registered by anyone,” he claimed.
Khairuddin said if the party finds that this trend was endemic, it would lodged a report with the police on the matter as a fraud case and monitor anyone who comes into Selangor.
The objection period of the electoral roll began on Monday and concludes next week. All objections were made in August.
