About 240 BN elected representatives from across Malaysia began their retreat in Kuala Selangor today to discuss plans for the 891 voting districts of Selangor to enable the coalition to take the state back in the next general election.

The retreat involving state assemblypersons and BN supporters' club members will end on Friday, and it is organised to ensure BN's victory in Selangor.

"Assemblypersons will be made to look after specific voting districts, where they will have to line up the machinery and work with local BN leaders," said a secretariat member who declined to be named, saying he was not authorised to speak to the media.

He told Malaysiakini the selected assemblypersons would have to spend time at the voting districts assigned to them and report their findings to the Selangor BN.

Mahathir to motivate them

The Kuala Selangor retreat will be officiated by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is also Selangor BN liaison chief, at Perkarangan Tesco there at 8.30 tomorrow night.

NONEPrior to that, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will at 3pm tomorrow give a motivational speech "to sustain the momentum" leading to the general election.

"We want to make sure that BN wins in the next election, as we can see that support (from the people for BN) is on the rise.

"The PM, during the recent Selangor BN convention, had already given the state machinery a shot in the arm and asked us to work harder," the secretariat member said.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will officiate the closing ceremony on Friday.

Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president and BN deputy chairperson, will deliver the closing speech at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Meru at 4.30pm.
