Selangor BN will officially kick off its polls machinery this Saturday with a convention to deliberate strategies on how to wrest the state from Pakatan Rakyat.
During a press conference at the Shah Alam Selangor Umno headquarters, Mohd Zin Mohamed said this was to put the machinery in a "state of readiness".
"The purpose (of the convention) is to empower the BN machinery towards a singular goal - to wrest power in Selangor," said Mohd Zin, who is also the Selangor Umno secretary.
Asked if this means that the general election is near, Mohd Zin laughingly said: "I don't know, you have to ask the PM... I only received a directive to hold the convention," he said.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will be officiating the event, which will be held at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic in Shah Alam from 8 am to 4pm.
Najib is also the Selangor Umno liaison chief.
Mohd Zin said that the convention aims to unite BN from the voting district levels, to the Parliament and state legislative assembly constituency level.
The by invitation only convention, will see 2114 participants plus about 900 other observers and secretariat members.
New theme
Those invited include Selangor BN committee members, 25 delegates from the 22 state BN divisions as well as its Wanita and Puteri wing committee members and 891 voting district chiefs from 56 districts.
Also invited are BN veterans, the Association of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak), delegates from political parties Kimma, IPF, MIUP, Makkal Sakti and BN-friendly NGOs.
Mohd Zin said that the theme for this convention will be “Love Selangor, Trust BN”.
"This year we have dropped the 'BN can change' theme because everyone has changed," he quipped.
He said that the convention in April last year was a roaring success and helped BN candidate P Kamalanathan score a resounding 1,725 vote majority victory during the Hulu Selangor by-election the same month.
"We hope the convention can give a shot in the arm, and provide renewed spirit and strength for us to work together as one BN family under the PM who also heads Selangor BN," he said.
The premier, accompanied by wife Rosmah Mansor, is expected to proceed to Selangor BN's Hari Raya open house at 4pm at i-City in Section 7, Shah Alam.
The usual RM10 parking fee will be waived for the event scheduled to end at 10pm.
