Malaysia’s first Internet protocol TV (IPTV) station decided to pull the plug on its news and current affairs talk show which has built a significant young audience through its critical and creative content.

NONEThe talk show Eyes of Media (EOM) will be terminated next Thursday after airing its 100th and last episode next Wednesday, according to its host, Moon Wong, during last night’s programme.

However, the reason to terminate the four-month-old programme was not revealed.

Since the announcement, EOM’s Facebook page has received many queries from its audience asking whether it is a management decision or was a result of political interference.

It is learnt that the company management had decided to shut down the channel, ETV, that hosts EOM and several other local produced programmes.

Launched on May 4 this year, EOM, a 30-minute programme which invites two commentators every night from Monday to Friday, is very critical in discussing current affairs including ‘sensitive’ political issues.

Humourous and satirical

What differentiates it from other conventional local talk shows is the humorous and satirical way of presenting its views, poking fun at even the nation’s top politicians.

Due to the amusing and creative content which can be shared and distributed online, it has begun to build a strong base of young people online.

NONEIts four-part series on the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally which documented alleged police brutality and its clampdown on the marchers, had received more than 170,000 views on its YouTube channel.

ETV is one of the 50-odd channels provided by DeTV, the nation’s first IPTV station owned by telecommunication company Redtone International Berhad.

ETV is the only channel that airs local content including EOM and Powerful Penang, a lifestyle magazine programme that focuses on Penang. Other channels are mostly from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
