MP: Certain Islamic bodies plotting to topple S'gor MB

Tired: There are certain Islamic bodies plotting to topple the Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim?

If one day he is indeed toppled, I salute these "certain Islamic bodies" for being so powerful and influential in removing a serving head of state.

The state constitution will have to be amended to reflect this new power broker.

Louis: It is mind-boggling that Jais (Selangor Islamic Affairs Department) has to take more than one month to report on an hour-long raid of the church. Is the report going to detail every minute of the raid?

Even assuming that it takes one day to report one minute of the time in the raid, it should have been completed by now.

If truly there are attempts to convert Muslims, just state the facts. Of course, it must come out with the names of those who were about to be converted.

By simply saying that the church (Damansara Utama Methodist Church) was attempting to proselytise without solid proof is a dangerous precedent as anyone can then simply make similar accusations against the churches whenever he/she likes.

By taking so long to submit the report, I suspect Jais is trying to wriggle itself out of the embarrassment it brought upon itself - raiding the church without rhyme or reason.

Jeremy Ng: The whole event is not only sad but sickening. It appears that our Islamic religious bodies and NGOs are playing politics. And, God will be happy if they are sincerely working in the interest of Muslims.

But the game played is far from sincere and honest. These 'fearless' champions are not really fighting in the name of Allah but for dishonest self or group benefits.

Jedi_Who: We shouldn't allow politics to influence religion, and likewise religion to influence politics. That is what is meant by a secular state because the two cannot mix.

Religion seeks the betterment of the soul and our relationship with God. Politics is the business of deception and misdirection. But, it is now clear that Umno's influence and power presides even over religious institutions.

Onyourtoes: I understand the difficulties but Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim and the state government are not totally without power. I suggest the MB bites the bullet and challenge those who are bent on creating trouble by exposing them or putting them in cold storage completely.
The time for engagement and reconciliation is over - fight them openly, why need to second guess or speculate.

FairMind: So Jais is requesting for a one-month extension. But it is not to file a proper report but to scheme the toppling of the Pakatan Rakyat state government.

For a religious body, this is downright dishonest and does not paint a good picture of Islam which they are supposed to protect.

Geronimo: HRH (His Royal Highness) the Sultan of Selangor must take cognisance at all times that the people of Selangor are his subjects, be they Muslims, Buddhists, atheists, Christians or Hindus. All must be treated in a fair manner as he represents the fountain of justice.

My advice to HRH, be wise. One misstep and you will lose the respect of the rakyat forever. This is the time to show your mettle.

Ferdtan: We, the Selangorians, will never allow an elected MB to be unseated by undemocratic means. Never again a debacle like the 'illegal grab for power' in Perak be repeated in Selangor.

Whoever tries to scheme this plot to topple Khalid Ibrahim will surely suffer the wrath of the people. Never underestimate people's power, especially people from Selangor who are not only educated, well-informed but have history of political activism.

MP Khalid Samad is doing a service to the MB to pre-empt such move by the detractors, obviously with the tacit support of their political masters - Umno and a certain Umno-friendly PAS leader.

Outgoing CJ defends judges-PM meet

Pemerhati: The judiciary is judged by the type of judgments it delivers. The judgments in high-profile cases such as Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy trials and the Perak constitutional crisis cases stink to high heaven.

Anwar's Sodomy l trial attracted international attention and was universally condemned as being a travesty of justice.

Most of the decisions so far on the Sodomy ll trial indicate that it is a repeat of the previous sodomy trial. Constitutional law expert Abdul Aziz Bari, when referring to the Perak case, said that "the problem here is the court has failed to be consistent and the law has become upside-down as a result".

Arifin Zakaria, who has been appointed the chief justice and Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin, who has been appointed chief judge of Malaya, gave the ‘upside down' judgments in the Perak cases which enabled BN to legally grab the state.

Hence the chances of things changing for the better in our courts in the future look pretty dim.

Rick Teo: If there is no interference from the executive, can (outgoing Chief Justice) Zaki Azmi explain how the judiciary could overrule the decision of the state legislature in Perak?

According to the state constitution, the decision of the state legislature is final and the courts have no jurisdiction in the decision and procedures of the state legislature. So how did the High Court overrule the decision of the state legislature?

Wira: Impartial judges? I think the flaw in our system is that judges can choose not to remain independent and be rewarded for trading in their conscience.

The fault lies with a corrupt system where integrity is no longer a prerequisite to being appointed to high office.
