Group wants proof that school name stays

A group is insisting that the authorities prove that the SJK(C) Chee Wen, Subang Jaya would not be renamed.
A group opposing the renaming of SJK(C) Chee Wen wants a written assurance that the school name will remain untouched.

During a protest of about 300 people in front of the school compound today, the ad-hoc group's leader Alex Wee said that there would be no let up on the issue unless an assurance is given in writing.
"We welcome the decision by the school's board of governors to keep the original name, but we have yet to see the black and white," he told the crowd.
During the protest this morning, the crowd sang the school's anthem and chanted slogan. A banner also read "Chee Wen will always be Chee Wen".
The protest doubled as a signature campaign drive. Wee said that 2,500 signatures have been collected so far and the petition will be submitted to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
He said that the group had decided to by-pass the Deputy Education Minsiter Wee Ka Siong because the latter had insisted that he had nothing to do with the controversy.
The school board had reportedly approved a proposal to rename the school after real-estate tycoon Jeffrey Cheah's father. Cheah was rumoured to have donated a hefty sum to the school.
Parents and educationists are against the move because it would be tantamount to putting the school up for auction.
