Following Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria’s statement putting the blame on the government for Malay disunity, PKR today hailed it as a vindication of Pakatan Rakyat which has often been accused by the ruling coalition of creating a rift within the Malay community.

NONE“This clearly shows what is seen as Malay-Muslim disunity today was a result of the dirty political game by Umno leaders which began under the tenure of (former prime minister and Umno chief) Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” said PKR information chief Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty (left) in a statement today.

During a  forum in Shah Alam on Wednesday, Harussani had said that the Malays are split because the government is very weak, betrays trust and is corrupt.

Muhmmad Nur added that the mufti’s stance shows that Mahathir’s sacking of Anwar Ibrahim was the cause of Malay disunity and not Anwar himself.

NONE“The Perak mufti’s statement validates our stance that the the sodomy accusation against Anwar are false and slander to bring down a leader of the Malay-Muslim community.

“It is clear that the sacking of Anwar was not a moral factor but an evil conspiracy by Mahathir and his circle,” he said.

Harussani had revealed that he advised then-premier Mahathir against sacking Anwar but was ignored.

“I had told Mahathir that Anwar is not someone with little influence and sacking him would split the Malay community... charging him with sodomy without four witnesses would have dire consequences,” Harussani said.
