The much-anticipated meeting between PAS and the Damansara Utama Methodist Church has been postponed to a later date yet to be confirmed.

NONE"The church has postponed the meet via a letter to us yesterday, they are concerned that the issue 'is under intense public scrutiny'," the Islamic party's secretary-general, Mustafa Ali (right), told reporters in a press conference at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said that the church is concerned about the implications of the many comments and interpretations at large in the public domain, over the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department's (Jais) raid on a fundraiser hosted in a hall on church grounds, two weeks ago.

"They will contact us and inform us of the time and venue for the meet," explained Mustafa.

He added that the church had told them in an earlier letter that one of the pre-conditions of a meeting was the absence of media coverage.

"However as we found out today, the media were waiting. I was called by the media personally, asking me when and where. They say even if they cannot enter it's okay as they just want to watch," revealed Mustaffa.

Fundraiser disrupted

Two weeks ago Jais enforcement officers and police allegedly disrupted a fund raising dinner hosted by welfare NGO Harapan Komuniti, at the Dream Centre, a hall situated on DUMC grounds

Church and civil society leaders have cried foul over what they say was the inappropriate and heavy-handed manner of Jais.

The Islamic authority however justified its actions as being sanctioned under state laws against the proselytisation of Muslims by those of other faiths.

PAS had earlier arranged to meet up with both DUMC and Jais over the purported raid which the Islamic authority had said was merely an "inspection visit".

However the meet with Jais was postponed on the advice of the Selangor Sultan.
