Perak identifies new sources of income

The state government has identified new sources of income which include underground water charges, poultry licensing and electrical sub-station quit rent collections.

Menteri Besar Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the state government has set up a committee to study the potentials of these new sources and to find ways to increase the income from the existing ones.
The committee, headed by Zambry, will also identify efforts to reduce arrears in revenue collection, as well as long-term and short-term methods to increase the state’s revenue, he said in response to a question from Mohd Zaim Abu Hasan (BN-Belanja) at the state assembly sitting in Ipoh today.
He said so far the committee has recommended the appointment of two fund management companies, Vision Investment Management Sdn Bhd and MayBank Investment Management Sdn Bhd, with each allocated RM15 million for investment with a target of seven percent in annual returns.
Meanwhile, executive councillor Saarani Mohamad said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has been striving to bring progress and development to the Orang Asli community since the country’s independence in 1957.
“We are developing the Orang Asli community not only in terms of providing them with infrastructure but also opportunities to further their education.
“Now many of them are lawyers, professors, lecturers, doctors and civil servants,” he said in response to a question from Hasbullah Osman (BN-Temengor).
The assembly was later adjourned sine die.
