A group of 20 people from a non-governmental organisation calling themselves Gerakan Reformasi Rakyat Malaysia (Reformasi) staged a protest today inside the massive Jalan Duta court complex compound before the police asked them to go outside the complex and then disperse.

The protesters called for a speedy trial to the sodomy case following a complaint several weeks ago made by Saiful’s father, Azlan Md Lazim, that it had entered its third year.

Reformasi president Ramlan Abu Bakar read out a statement asking the court not to be bound by an alleged sodomist as it would destroy the country.

“We cannot let a person accused of sodomy to destroy Malaysia and we urge the people to rise up and protest against the unfairness and vice done by this sodomiser.

“He is not only a sodomiser to humans but has also affected Malaysia’s development and peace and the country’s standing. He has also affected the economy by asking investors not to invest here and such actions have denied job opportunities for the people,” Ramlan said.

Ramlan said Anwar’s case had split society and has affected Malaysia’s political stability.

He went on to accuse Anwar of using his case to cause chaos, and for his own political gain.

After protesting for about 40 minutes, the group dispersed on orders by the police.
