Barisan Alternatif (BA) today adopted a 13-point resolution touching on social, economics and politics at the end of its one-day national convention.

One key resolution is the call for the release of all detainees held under the Internal Security Act (ISA) and jailed ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim.

It also called for a new ruling which makes it compulsory for major government enterprises like Petronas to submit an annual report to be debated in Parliament. This is to ensure the transparency in the use of public funds.

The convention also resolved that living costs including those on education, health care, housing, transportation and utilities be reduced.

It also called for an "end" to the ruling Barisan Nasional's "racial and oligarchy politics" and to be replaced by the " new politics " introduced by BA.

PAS vice-president Dr Hasan Ali read out the resolutions which was drafted based on the debates by delegates at today's convention.

They took part in the debate after BA leaders presented three policy working papers earlier in the day.

'A climax'

Keadilan supreme council member N Gobalakrishnan later led the crowd to read out and endorse a declaration which reaffirms the BA's intention to call for a wide range of reforms under the current ruling government.

The declaration was signed by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Keadilan president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Speaking to reporters later, Abdul Hadi described the convention as a "climax" for BA in a series of consultations with grassroots members to seek their views for the drafting of the BA manifesto.
