Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman has ordered an investigation into an alleged embezzlement of welfare assistance for senior citizens in the state.
"I have asked the minister concerned (state Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs Azizah Mohd Dun) to get into the bottom of the matter.
"If this allegation is true, action will be taken against the parties involved and they will have to face the consequences as we do not want untrustworthy officers," he told reporters after presenting aid to 334 disabled and needy people at Kampung Sungai Kayu Mosque near Sandakan today.
Musa was commenting on a report in a local newspaper on Thursday on an alleged fraud in the disbursement of welfare assistance to the elderly in the state.
Reminding civil servants to carry out their duties with integrity, sincerity and honesty, he said officers tasked with managing welfare assistance should not abuse their power and trust placed upon them.
